Joseph Cummins is the author of numerous books, including Anything for a Vote: Dirty Tricks, Cheap Shorts and October Surprises in U.S. Presidential Elections, A Bloody History of the World, which won the 2010 Our History Project Gold Medal Award, and Ten Tea Parties: Patriotic Protests That History Forgot. He lives in Maplewood, New Jersey, with his wife and daughter.

Joseph Cummins worked in the Mixter studio.
Built in 1927–1930, the Florence Kilpatrick Mixter Studio was funded by its namesake and designed by the architect F. Winsor, Jr., who also designed MacDowell's original Savidge Library in 1925.
