Juan Andrés García Román holds a Ph.D. in literary theory and works as a teacher and translator, focusing mainly on German and English literature: He has translated, among many others, the works of R. M. Rilke (DVD Ediciones) and H. P. Lovecraft (Arrebato Libros, Pre-Textos). He has been included in many anthologies of Spanish contemporary poetry and will also be featured in the European Poetry Anthology (Hanser Verlag) scheduled for 2019. His work has been translated into Italian. Winner of numerous awards and prizes, Juan Andrés has published many books of poetry, among them El Fósforo Astillado (The Splintered Match, 2008, DVD Ediciones), La Adoración (The Adoration, 2011, DVD Ediciones) and Fruta para el Pajarillo de la Superstición (Fruit for the Little Bird of the Superstition, 2017, Pre-Textos).
During his residency at MacDowell he accomplished the first section of his new book provisionally titled En una Noche Oscuuura, where he mingles a lyric voice rooted in the tradition of medieval European love songs with surrealistic imagery. Prior to his residency, Juan Andrés has been included in the anthologies for Spanish contemporary poetry La Cuarta Personal del Plural, Vaso Roto, 2016 and Centros de Gravedad, Pre-Textos, 2018. He will also appear in the Anthology of Contemporary European Poetry, which was scheduled for a March 2019 release by Carl Hanser Verlag publishers.
