Julia Solomonoff is an Argentine writer/director living in New York. Her feature films include Hermanas (Toronto 2005, Sundance Lab and Berlinale Talent Campus), The Last Summer of la Boyita (San Sebastian 2009, produced by Almodovar, winner of over 20 international awards) and Nobody’s Watching, winner of Best Actor Award at Tribeca Film Festival 2017 and was a New York Times and Village Voice Critic’s Pick when it opened at Film Forum.
For television, she directed the documentary series "Parana, biography of a river," the mockumentary Chin Chon Fan and the fiction The Suitor (ITVS, NEA grants, aired on PBS). Her short films Scratch, Siesta, Ahora, and A Day with Angela have received awards from DGA, FIPRESCI, Milos Forman and a regional Academy Award Nomination.
Her producing credits include: Lucrecia Martel’s Zama, Everybody has a Plan, Celina Murga’s The Third Bank of the River, Julia Murat’s Pendular and Found Memories and Alejandro Landes’ Cocalero.
A Fulbright grantee, Solomonoff holds an M.F.A. from Columbia University, where she taught film directing for six years. She teaches at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
While at MacDowell she developed Off Peak a feature script dealing with gentrification and eviction in the Hudson River Valley.
