June Edmonds was born in Los Angeles, where she lives and works. She received her M.F.A. from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, and a bachelor’s from San Diego State University. Edmonds has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles in 2019 and 2021, in New York in 2022, and has completed several public art works in La Jolla, Long Beach, and Los Angeles.

Edmonds was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2022, the Fellowship for Visual Artists with the California Community Foundation in 2022, The Harpo Foundation Award and the Inaugural Aware Prize in 2020 and the Artist Fellowship of the City of L.A. (The C.O.L.A.) in 2018. Her paintings are held in collections throughout the U.S. She was most recently the subject of a 40-year survey show at the Laband Gallery at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles.

At MacDowell, she painted large scale and smaller abstract paintings that would debut in her solo exhibition Meditations on African Resilience at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles in 2024. Images of paintings created at MacDowell will also be published by Zero Publishing in a book featuring her work, also in 2024.
