Kate Shepherd is an American artist based in New York City. Known for her application of oil paint upon highly saturated layers of enamel, Shepherd's artistic process results in gleaming, reflective surfaces that allow viewers to see their own reflections within an intimate, vibrant, spatially complex image. The artist also continues explorations of color and line in works on paper. Shepherd has had solo exhibitions at the Phillips Collection, Washington D.C.; Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Portland, Oregon; Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles, California; the Lannan Foundation, Santa Fe, New Mexico; and the Chinati Foundation, Marfa, Texas.

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956.
