German fashion designer and painter Katharina Denzinger (1936-2019) received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theater costume design from Universität der Künste Berlin before moving to New York City to become a fashion designer, eventually taking the role as editorial illustrator for magazines such as The New York Times, Esquire, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Visa, and Mademoiselle. She became a full-time faculty member at Parsons School of Design, teaching a wide range of art-related subjects including anatomy, figure drawing, perspective, and value drawing. Denzinger also taught at the Pratt Institute and the Fashion Institute of Technology, before switching her focus to creating and exhibiting fine art.

Between 1980 and 2013, Denzinger exhibited her work at museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, galleries, and shows around the world. She held multiple residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Yaddo, and MacDowell.
