Katharine Dion is a writer based in Berkeley, California. Her first novel, The Dependents, has been called an “insightful story about friendship, love, and loss,” “brilliant and absorbing,” “intelligent and profound.”
She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was awarded the Iowa Arts Fellowship. She is also the recipient of a grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation.
She completed the first draft of The Dependents at MacDowell.

Van Zorn (formerly Kirby)
Katharine Dion worked in the Van Zorn (formerly Kirby) studio.
Constructed thanks to a bequest from Sarah L. Kirby, Kirby Studio was the last new building to be erected during Mrs. MacDowell’s leadership (1907-1951).
