Kathleen McShane lives and works in Fayetteville, Texas equidistant between Houston and Austin. McShane was educated at Cranbrook Academy of Art (M.F.A.) and New York State College of Art and Design at Alfred University (B.F.A.).

Her drawings and installations involve a reductive abstraction and collage within implied landscapes. She has been awarded fellowships and residencies at MacDowell, Cité des Artes Paris, Tyrone Guthrie Centre Ireland, Franz Masereel Centrum, and Millay.

McShane is represented by Paul Kotula Projects in Detroit. She has exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, Aldrich Museum, the Drawing Center, Bruton Museum and many other national and international spaces. Her drawings are in many public and private collections including Sally and Werner Kramarsky, James Rosenquist, McNay Art Museum, Portland Museum of Art and Entemann Collection Germany.

The Graphics Studio (as it was originally named) was converted to its present use in 1972–1974 through a grant from the Putnam Foundation, and originally served the property as both a power house and pump house.
