Kris Allen is an American saxophonist, composer, arranger, bandleader and educator. He has performed with many legends of jazz music, including Illinois Jacquet, Gerald Wilson, Curtis Fuller, Andy Gonzales, and Curtis Fuller, as well as with modern stars such as Helen Sung, Winard Harper, Jeremy Pelt, Andy Laverne, the Mingus Dynasty, and Mario Pavone.

In addition to numerous ongoing collaborative projects Kris is a co-founder of the Jazz Samaritan Alliance and member of the Truth Revolutions Recording Collective. His quartet has released two critically acclaimed albums of original works - Circle House (2012) and Beloved (2016) - and toured nation and worldwide. Allen is the Lyell B.Clay Artist in Residence in Jazz at Williams College and has previously held positions at Trinity College, the Hartt School and Southern CT State University.

While at MacDowell Kris Allen composed six short pieces for a quartet of jazz improvisers, to be recorded for Truth Revolution Recording Collective in the fall of 2018, and worked on a large ensemble piece (an homage to the great Roy Hargrove)to be performed by the AH/HA jazz ensemble in August 2018

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
