Laurel Farrin is a visual artist with an M.F.A. from the University of Maryland and is an associate professor at the University of Iowa in painting and drawing. Her work has been exhibited at The Roswell Museum, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Bronx River Art Center, The Des Moines Art Center, Hallwalls, Lesley Heller Gallery, Anton Gallery, Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, and The Washington Project for the Arts. Past residencies include the Roswell Museum and Art Center, Dora Mar, Yaddo, The Millay Colony, and VCCA.

At MacDowell, she completed paintings and drawings and short videos to be shown at Yellow Door Gallery in Des Moines, IA, and Figge Museum in Davenport, IA in 2018. Collaborative work from a Cuban-U.S. exchange, Hecho en Transito, will be shown at Columbia University and Long Island University in February and March of 2018.

Heinz

Laurel Farrin worked in the Heinz studio.

The icehouse, built of fieldstone in 1914–1915, was a practical part of Marian MacDowell’s plan for a self-sufficient farm.
