Lauren Swift is a Sacramento-based writer and editor. Her poetry and nonfiction have appeared in journals, including Denver Quarterly, Cimarron Review, Bennington Review, North American Review, Pinch, Atlanta Review, and The Rumpus. She was the recipient of Academy of American Poets Prizes in 2016 and 2019 and a finalist for the 2022 Marystina Santiestevan First Book Prize.

At MacDowell, she completed the first draft of a new manuscript, a poetry collection that explores the aftermath of illness and recovery and imagines a new kind of mythological figure that can stand for those who inhabit difficult bodies.

Lauren Swift worked in the MacDowell studio.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
