Lee Pinkas is a fiction writer and poet who currently lives in Berlin, Germany. Before moving, she taught high school English in New York City for years. She has recently completed her first novel.

At MacDowell, she made significant progress on her second novel, a loose retelling of the Romeo and Juliet story about two teenaged boys living on opposite sides of the JMZ subway line in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She spent time researching the Satmar community there as well as the shrinking Latino neighborhood of Los Sures.

Lee Pinkas worked in the Chapman studio.

Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance porch appears on the north side…
