Linda Griggs is best known for her darkly humored Story Art series including "Family Outing," "What to Do with the Body," "The First Time Is Not Like Porn," and "Mean Toys and Ass Beatings," which contrast image and expectation.
She has had solo exhibitions ADO, Christopher Stout Gallery and Carolyn J. Roy Gallery in New York, and Hampden Gallery, UMASS Amherst.
Group shows include the Iwami Art Museum, Japan; Wustum Museum, Racine, WI; the Bertha and Karl Leubsdorf Art Gallery at Hunter College; Gahlberg Gallery at the College of Du Page, Illinois; Albany International Airport Gallery; and the New York Public Library. Fellowships include the MacDowell and Millay colonies. She has received grants from Change, Inc. and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; and a residency at the Artist Alliance Inc.’s LES Rotating Studio Program.
Her work is included in the collections of JP Morgan Chase, Peter Klein/Obac Corporation, Ann Partlow, Sheila Curran Bernhard, Eileen Schwab, Therese Lichtenstein, Alix Sloane, Rich Timperio, Susanna Coffey, Paul Bridgewater, Jan Hanvik and others.
She received her master’s from Hunter College and bachelor’s from Virginia Commonwealth University.
She is also known for her curatorial work, the E32 art crit series, a 1995 online art venue, Scope Art Gallery, and her work as Chair of Programming, Board of Directors, at The Clemente for their Abrazo and LES Galleries.
