Lisa Dahl is a mixed-media artist whose work addresses the suburban home and the American Dream. By simplifying the structure of a house to a basic form, Dahl explores the traditional ideas we attach to home ownership as well as what these buildings evoke for us, such as personal goals, economic issues, urban planning, and environmental concerns.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
