Filmmaker Lisa Rubin is particularly drawn to dark romantic thrillers and complicated female protagonists. She is the creator and executive producer of the original Netflix series Gypsy starring Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup. She has developed television and feature films for Starz, Peacock, A24, Dreamworks, FilmNation, Universal, and New Line.

She is currently adapting the novel The Wife Upstairs for television (a modern Southern Gothic version of Jane Eyre) at Peacock as well as the popular novel The Last Mrs. Parrish for a Netflix film.

At MacDowell, Rubin revised an original pilot for television. She also completed a feature length screenplay of a thriller set in Italy.

Sprague-Smith

Lisa Rubin worked in the Sprague-Smith studio.

In January of 1976, the original Sprague-Smith Studio — built in 1915–1916 and funded by music students of Mrs. Charles Sprague-Smith of the Veltin School — was destroyed by fire.
