Lu Olkowski worked on her as yet untitled radio documentary about women fighting to work as longshoremen on the Los Angeles and Long Beach waterfront. Previous stories in this series are called Cargoland (http://cargoland.kcrw.com/). Her radio documentary As Black as We Wish to Be was a winner of the National Edward R. Murrow Award; the Sigma Delta Chi Award from the SPJ; the RTNDA/UNITY Award; an award from the National Society of Black Journalists; and a Gracie Award.

Van Zorn (formerly Kirby)

Lu Olkowski worked in the Van Zorn (formerly Kirby) studio.

Constructed thanks to a bequest from Sarah L. Kirby, Kirby Studio was the last new building to be erected during Mrs. MacDowell’s leadership (1907-1951).
