Luisa Kazanas is an American artist who was born in Brooklyn in 1969. She earned her M.F.A. in sculpture at Florida State University in Tallahassee and her B.F.A. in sculpture at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. She specializes in sculpture and prints that explore psychological states of being and draw on the aesthetics of science fiction and imagery from alchemical texts. She has participated in both solo and group exhibitions at museums across the United States including the Sara Meltzer Gallery in New York, the Toyer Gallery in Washington, D.C., jennyjoy gallery in San Francisco, and the Florida State Museum of Art, among others. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and the Catskills.
During her residency, she worked on a series of large-scale, ink-on-paper drawings. She also began working with painter Jackie Gendell on editing more than 50 hours of footage shot at MacDowell for their collaborative film project, "Here Comes Hilarity."
