Mala Iqbal is an artist who was born in the Bronx in 1973. Her most recent solo show was at Taylor University in Upland, IN (2018). Other solo shows were at Ulterior Gallery, Bellwether Gallery, and PPOW in New York, Twelve Gates Arts in Philadelphia, and Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles. Her work has been exhibited in group shows throughout the United States as well as in Australia, China, Europe, and India. Her work has been reviewed in various publications including The New York Times, The Village Voice, and The New Yorker.

Iqbal has been awarded artist residencies at Yaddo, The Fine Arts Work Center, and the Hermitage Artist Retreat as well as MacDowell. She received a New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) fellowship in Painting in 2008.

In residence at MacDowell, she worked on paintings of numerous sizes and wild inventiveness with partner in crime, Angela Dufresne. These paintings will be shown at the Richard and Dolly Maass Gallery at SUNY Purchase in Fall 2021.

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956.
