Mark Adamo worked on his third opera, The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, which premièred at the San Francisco Opera in June 2013. His first two operas, Little Women and Lysistrata, were produced by New York City Opera in 2003 and 2006; Little Women was released on DVD in 2010.

Sprague-Smith
Mark Adamo worked in the Sprague-Smith studio.
In January of 1976, the original Sprague-Smith Studio — built in 1915–1916 and funded by music students of Mrs. Charles Sprague-Smith of the Veltin School — was destroyed by fire.
