Mark Miller is a painter whose solo shows in New York's Chelsea galleries and Los Angeles' Chinatown district have had reviews in The New York Times, Art in America, and numerous metropolitan publications. Prior to founding the Miller School of Art, he taught for over 25 years at universities throughout the country, including the University of Washington, Cornish College of the Arts, and the University of Oregon. During the last decade, he has used snapshots as a starting point for work. Instead of painting solely from found photos, he has purchased anonymous (unsuspecting) customers' snapshots, made them into paintings, and then returned the photos of those paintings to the original owner. Many of his shows are titled in reference to this--such as "Second Set Free". His goal is to force the unsuspecting viewer into re-examining the casual photograph.

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956.
