Marthe Keller is an American artist born in New York City in 1948. She studied at the Overseas School of Rome, St. Stephen’s School in Rome, Temple University, and George Washington University, and received her B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute. She has worked as a visiting artist at several art foundations across the United States and has taught at School of Art Institute Chicago, Princeton University, New York Studio School of Painting, and has co-taught or lectured and many more. She made Marqui’s Who’s Who in Art list and exhibited in solo and group shows all across the United States and abroad.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
