Masha Hamilton is the founder of two international literary non-profits, Hamilton worked for the U.S. government in Afghanistan for a year and a half, and for an international non-profit for two and a half years before returning fulltime to writing in May 2016.

When she arrived at MacDowell, she was working on her sixth novel, The Glassblower, and a non-fiction project that examines changes in gender relations among Syrian refugee couples due to the strains caused by the Syrian war. She continued work on both of these projects while in residence.

Sorosis

Masha Hamilton worked in the Sorosis studio.

Sorosis Studio was funded by the New York Carol Club of Sorosis. The small, masonry studio was designed by F. Winsor, Jr., the architect who also designed Savidge Library (1926) and Mixter Studio (1927).
