Maureen Stanton graduated with a B.A. in communication studies from the University of Massachusetts. For a decade, she worked in fund raising for environmental conservation, first as director of development for The Nature Conservancy in Michigan and then for the Natural Resources Council of Maine. Later, she attended graduate school at Ohio State, where she earned an M.F.A. in creative nonfiction. Currently she teaches creative writing and literary journalism at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Marian MacDowell and friends originally named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his life.
