Born in México City in 1948, Max Lifchitz has resided in the U.S. since 1966. A graduate of The Juilliard School and Harvard University, he has appeared on concert stages throughout Latin America, Europe, and the U.S. Lifchitz appears as conductor, pianist and composer on over 75 albums released by North/South Consonance – the New York City-based performance organization he founded in 1980.

"A young composer of brilliant imagination and a stunning ultra-sensitive pianist" is how the San Francisco Chronicle described him. The New York Times praised him for his "clean, measured and sensitive performances." The American Record Guide commented: “Mr. Lifchitz is as good on the podium as he is behind the keyboard. …A consummate musician. One of America’s finest exponents of contemporary piano music.”

MacDowell

Max Lifchitz worked in the MacDowell studio.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
