Michael Burkard is a poet. He is the author of 10 previous collections of poetry, including lucky coat anywhere (Nightboat Books, 2011), Envelope of Night: Selected and Uncollected Poems, 1966–1990 (Nightboat Books, 2008), and Unsleeping (Sarabande Books, 2001). He has received numerous awards, including a Whiting Award and the Alice Fay di Castagnola Award. He teaches at Syracuse University.

Studios

Wood

Michael Burkard worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
