Mike Alberti was born and raised in Albuquerque. He received his M.F.A. in fiction from the University of Minnesota. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Colorado Review, Crazyhorse, The Florida Review, Gulf Coast, Indiana Review, One Story, and elsewhere. He lives in Minneapolis, where he serves as the managing director for Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop.
While at MacDowell, he wrote three short stories and began a fourth.

massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural,
unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of
slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central,
