Mike Estabrook is a Brooklyn-based artist originally from the Mississippi River town of Quincy, Illinois. His work is characterized by an irreverent humor and fantastical figurative language, often addressing political or existential subjects. It moves through many different media -- taking form through animation, drawing, painting, and installation.
Estabrook's work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and non-profit spaces worldwide, including Collegium Artisticum Terezije, Sarajevo, BiH; The Queens Museum; The Bronx Museum; Quartair Fine Arts, Den Haag, NL; PPOW Fine Arts; and PS1/MOMA. In addition, he has been at several prestigious artist's residencies, including MacDowell, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace program, Art Bejing in China, Artists in the Marketplace at the Bronx Museum, the Rotating Studio Program at the Artist's Alliance, and LMCC's Governors Island residency.
His work has been cited in many publications, including The New York Times, Time Out New York, The Brooklyn Rail, and L Magazine.
Estabrook received his B.F.A. from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed his M.F.A. from Queens College in 2005. He is a founding and ongoing member of the collective Artcodex.
