Mikel Kuehn is an American composer and professor of composition with degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of North Texas. He has received award, grants, and residencies from ASCAP, the Guggenheim Foundation, BMI, Banff Centre, Barlow Endowment, the Chicago Symphony, MacDowell, and many more. His works have been commissioned by famous ensembles and solo artists including, Ensemble 21, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and cellist Craig Hultgren, among others. Kuehn is a professor of composition at Bowling Green State University and was director of the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music, the annual New Music Festival, and the Music at the Forefront concert series from 2007 through 2010.

MacDowell

Mikel Kuehn worked in the MacDowell studio.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
