Oscar Cuevas, from a small town in Southeast Kansas, spent his time as a MacDowell Fellow continuing work on his semi-autobiographical novel. A selection from the book won the New Michigan Press/DIAGRAM Essay Contest in 2015. Cuevas received his M.F.A. in creative writing from Syracuse University before moving to New York City.

Oscar Cuevas worked in the Garland studio.

MacDowell and friends originally named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the
nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his
life.
With
generous support from the Garland family, the studio was renovated in
2013 and renamed the Peter and Mary Garland Studio. The inward
opening, diamond-pane windows were replaced…
