"My name is Rachel Holstead and I live in Corca Dhuibhne in the south west of Ireland. These days, I work as an arts facilitator in the Gaeltacht (the Irish-speaking parts of Ireland). In previous lives I've composed music, kept bees, pigs, goats and hens, and run a market stall. I still plant trees and grow food in an increasingly jungly garden."

While at MacDowell, Rachael completed "Ardee Dances" for traditional Irish fiddle and period-instrument band. She also began developing ideas for new electroacoustic and instrumental work. "Ardee Dances" will be premiered by Gerry O'Connor and the Irish Baroque Orchestra at Ardee Baroque in 2005.

Sprague-Smith

Rachel Holstead worked in the Sprague-Smith studio.

In January of 1976, the original Sprague-Smith Studio — built in 1915–1916 and funded by music students of Mrs. Charles Sprague-Smith of the Veltin School — was destroyed by fire.
