Rachel Monroe is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, New York, Texas Monthly, Bookforum, Oxford American, and elsewhere.
While at MacDowell, she completed a section of her book A Life in Crimes: Women, Murder and Obsession, which was to be published by Scribner in 2019.

MacDowell and friends originally named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the
nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his
life.
With
generous support from the Garland family, the studio was renovated in
2013 and renamed the Peter and Mary Garland Studio. The inward
