Richard Cornell works in a range of symphonic and chamber music forms, as well as computer-mediated sound art. He has awards from the Fromm Music Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the New England Foundation for the Arts. Many chamber orchestras have commissioned Cornell’s work, and his collaborations with visual artists have been presented at internationally known galleries and museums. His virtual reality artworks, developed with visual artist Deborah Cornell have been presented at Indiana University, Boston CyberArts, SuperComputing, Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, and at the Taipei Biennial. Cornell’s works are recorded on Ravello, Northeastern Records, Sony Classical, and EMI/Virgin Veritas labels, and distributed worldwide by Naxos.

Van Zorn (formerly Kirby)

Richard Cornell worked in the Van Zorn (formerly Kirby) studio.

Constructed thanks to a bequest from Sarah L. Kirby, Kirby Studio was the last new building to be erected during Mrs. MacDowell’s leadership (1907-1951).
