Richard House is the author of two short novels, Bruiser and Uninvited, and the 2013 Booker Prize longlisted novel, The Kills. From 1987-2000 he was a member of the Chicago-based collaborative, Haha, whose work was commissioned for public spaces, galleries, and museums in Europe and the United States. From 2010-2014 he was the editor of FatboyReview, a digital literary and arts magazine.

During his 2022 MacDowell Fellowship, he completed his project ‘Monkey Williams’ (two novels: Let it Burn and Break it Down), for publication by Picador in 2023.

During his previous MacDowell residencies, he completed a treatment for his feature length film, Murmur, drafted sections of his novel Low and began work on short video pieces which accompanied the digital publication, and completed his award-winning book The Kills.

Chapman

Richard House worked in the Chapman studio.

Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance porch appears on the north side…
