Robert (Bobby) Guillot (1953-2020) was a sculptor whose works have been described as “impressively multifarious” and often would include anthropomorphic elements. He was born in Birmingham, AL, and attended Berry High School in Berry, AL before heading to Memphis College of Art, graduating with a B.F.A. in 1978. He then went east and in 1980 received his M.F.A. in sculpture from Yale University. Finally, he moved to Brooklyn where he worked and lived.
Guillot’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at Sideshow Gallery (Brooklyn); Jack Shainman Gallery (New York); Magasin 3 (Stockholm, Sweden); and The Stedelijk Museum (Netherlands). He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant (1981) and a Milton and Sally Avery Fellowship (1992). Guillot’s work has been reviewed in Hyperallergic, Artforum, The Yale Architecture Journal, The New York Times, and The Village Voice.
