Sculptor Robin Shores received a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Oregon in 1972 and a MFA in Sculpture from the University of Buffalo in 1974 after being discharged from the United States Navy in 1969. After leaving Roswell Robin returned to Boston where he taught at Boston University and the Boston Center for the Arts, was a volunteer with the American Friends Service Committee, a Fulbright scholar in India in 1987, a Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana West Africa from 1995 to 1997 and in Bangladesh in 2001. He has received grants from Pollock/Krasner Foundation, Gottlieb Foundation, and Roswell Artist-in-Residence program.
When he arrived at MacDowell, Robin Shores was working on a series of paintings and sculpture dealing with the institution of slavery in America. While at MacDowell, he completed preliminary designs on paper for a performance, "Strange Fruit", to be given in Boston that Spring. He also began a three dimensional series "Graven Images", a burial ground installation, dealing with civil rights.
