Rodrigo Gratacós Brum is a filmmaker and philosopher currently residing in Cape Verde. He holds a M.A. in philosophy at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a M.F.A. in film, video, new media and animation at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). His work explores fictional practices through documentary processes and has been exhibited in places like Mindelo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Chicago, and New Jersey, always through free projections in public spaces.
At MacDowell he finished a first cut of a feature length documentary shot in Cabo Verde, off the west coast of Africa. He also translated to Portuguese the play Trojan Barbie, written by Australian playwright Christine Evans, whom he met in residence. Rodrigo planned move to Cairo following his residency to direct a short documentary about architect Hassan Fathy and to teach as a visiting fellow at the Cairo Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences.
