Ruchika Tomar is a writer from the Inland Empire, California. She holds a B.A. in English literature from the University of California Irvine and an M.F.A. from Columbia University. She has received fellowships from The Center for Fiction, The MacDowell Colony, Vermont Studio Center, and Stanford University, where she was a Stegner Fellow. She was also one of New York Center for Fiction's Emerging Writers in 2015. Her debut novel, A Prayer For Travelers, was published by Riverhead Books in July 2019 and won a 2020 PEN/Hemingway Award.

At MacDowell, Tomar worked on a novel set in the Nevada desert.
