After college I studied filmmaking at Yale and made experimental films comprised of many drawings. I went on to teach at Cooper Union in NYC and showed my works around as much as possible. However as life unfolded, I was simultaneously drawn to the study of medicine and went on to practice as a physician. I endeavored to learn complex anatomy by drawing it. Medical imaging astonished me. The art of medicine can be profoundly beautiful and fulfilling. Being a physician allowed me to directly witness striking mysteries. The rigors of medicine, however, did not allow me time for reverie and art making. In 2015 I literally stumbled my way back to painting. I feel a kinship with my earlier work although I did not/could not commence where I left off.

Given to the MacDowell Association by Margaret Adams of Chicago, the half-timbered, stuccoed Adams Studio was designed by MacDowell Fellow and architect F. Tolles Chamberlin ca. 1914.
