Sara Johnson Allen received her M.F.A. in creative writing from Emerson College. She was awarded the 2018 Marianne Russo Award for Emerging Writers by the Key West Literary Seminar for a novel-in-progress. More recently, she was awarded an Elizabeth George Foundation artist’s grant and first prize in the 2019 Stockholm Writers Festival First Pages Prize. Her fiction has appeared in SmokeLong Quarterly, Harpur Palate, Redivider, The Bangalore Review, and is forthcoming in PANK Magazine.

She is represented by Jenni Ferrari-Adler of Union Literary and co-facilitates L’ATELIER Writers, a 501(c) non-profit, devoted to developing programming that helps artists find the time and space they need to create.

While at MacDowell, she began her second novel with the work title of The House in The Salt Marsh, reaching a 50,000-word draft before she left.

Heyward

Sara Johnson Allen worked in the Heyward studio.

The Lodge Annex, a wing on the west side of the men’s dormitory (The Lodge), was completed in 1926.
