Sarah Sutro’s work takes in the wilderness minutes from her door, and the dynamic art worlds of North Adams, Boston, and New York. Drawn to the nature of place, to the wild with its chaotic and deeply original patterns, and to minimal, often Utopian landscape, her work reflects both natural turbulence and abstract harmony.

Sarah Sutro worked in the Cheney studio.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
