During his 2002 MacDowell Fellowship, Spencer H. Schedler worked on his composition "Five Haiku for Orchestra." His solo piano piece "Refraction" was published the same year by Universal Editions, Vienna, and he was selected as one of six U.S. composers to receive a Copland House Award and Residency for 2002-2003.

At MacDowell in 2004, he worked on a solo marimba piece to be premiered by Kunihiko Kumari in Manhattan. He also worked on a piece for two pianos and percussion to be premiered in Ohio by the Clinton/Narboni Duo in 2005.

Chapman

Spencer Schedler worked in the Chapman studio.

Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance porch appears on the north side…
