Dr. Steven Weigt studied composition with Ross Bauer, Andrew Frank, Yehudi Wyner, Martin Boykan, and David Rakowski; and music theory and analysis with Richard Swift, Martin Boykan, and Allan Keiler.

In recognition of his compositional work, Dr. Weigt has been awarded the Goddard Lieberson Fellowship of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and residencies at the MacDowell Colony and the Wellesley Composers Conference. Selected compositions are published by the Association for the Promotion of New Music (APNM). His areas of scholarly interest include analysis, popular music (primarily metal and industrial), and the intersections of theory, aesthetics and cognition.

He is also active as a solo pianist, accompanist, and ensemble performer, and in these capacities has premiered new works by Allen Anderson, David Rakowski, Yehudi Wyner, and Martin Boykan, whose music he has recorded for commercial release.

Chapman

Steven Weigt worked in the Chapman studio.

Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance porch appears on the north side…
