Susan Barron is an American photographer, printmaker, and book artist from Lake Forest, IL, based in New York. Barron received musical training throughout her childhood, and received a degree from the University of Illinois in premed and clinical diagnostic chemistry. She then abandoned her plans to become a physician and moved to Europe where her career as an artist took center stage. Barron produced several works, including the books Another Song (in collaboration with John Cage), Book of Sixtys, Between the Lions, Twisting Silence, No One Goes Crazy Alone, and Jamaica Mistake. Barron’s work resides in numerous public and private collections, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and appears in auctions.

The Graphics Studio (as it was originally named) was converted to its present use in 1972–1974 through a grant from the Putnam Foundation, and originally served the property as both a power house and pump house.
