Susan Daykin’s paintings are inspired by her travels to various countries and cultures, and particularly the role of color in daily life in Mexico, South America and India. Much of her work, such as the potholder series, pays tribute to the extraordinary beauty in the utilitarian creations of ordinary people.

Daykin attended the University of Indiana, Yale University, and Washington University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and she has been awarded grants and residencies from the U Cross Foundation, Dorland Mountain Arts Colony, Yaddo, MacDowell, and the New York State Council on the Arts. Daykin has taught and lectured at American University, Art Students League, and Hobart-Smith Colleges, and she is currently a professor of in the Fine Arts Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
