At MacDowell, Thomas Mira y Lopez worked on his first book, a collection of essays about resting places. The Book of Resting Places: A Personal History of Where We Lay the Dead was published in 2017. He has completed the O'Connor Fellowship at Colgate University and now lives Athens, OH.

Thomas Mira y Lopez worked in the Sprague-Smith studio.
In January of 1976, the original Sprague-Smith Studio — built in 1915–1916 and funded by music students of Mrs. Charles Sprague-Smith of the Veltin School — was destroyed by fire.
