Tom Donaghy writes for theater and television. His plays have been produced at Atlantic Theater Company (which he co-founded), The Goodman Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, Lincoln Center Theatre, Playwrights Horizons and South Coast Repertory, among others. The plays are published in a collection by Grove Press, The Beginning of August and Other Plays, and in acting editions by Dramatists Play Service. For television, he created ABC’s hour drama series The Whole Truth, and Star, a musical drama on FOX, which he co-created with Lee Daniels.
Donaghy has received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, Theater Communications Group, the Sloan Foundation, PEN American and Fellowships at MacDowell, The Millay Colony, The Edward F. Albee Foundation, and Berilla Kerr Foundation. His work has been profiled by The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Village Voice and he has written essays about theater for The New York Times and American Theater Magazine. Donaghy’s teaching credentials include New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, as well as lecture appearances at City University of New York, Columbia University, Dartmouth College, and the University of Pennsylvania.
