Victor Lodato is a playwright and the author of two critically acclaimed novels: Edgar and Lucy and Mathilda Savitch. A Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, Lodato is also the recipient of two PEN USA Awards for fiction and playwriting. His stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and Best American Short Stories. Born and raised in New Jersey, he currently divides his time between Ashland, OR, and Tucson, AZ.

At MacDowell, Lodato completed the final edits for his third novel, Honey, to be published by Harper in 2024 and worked on a new novel, tentatively titled Mountain Mountain.

In the winter of 1998, motivated by his passion for reading, Stanford Calderwood donated funds for a new writers’ studio.
