Born in Syracuse, New York, William Coble has composed music premiered by orchestras, ensembles, and soloists across the country. His commissions and performances include musicians from all of the major orchestras in the United States, including principle players from the Chicago Symphony and Boston Symphony, and his music has been performed at venues worldwide.
Coble is the recipient of honors from The American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, The Rockefeller Foundation, Columbia University’s Bearns Prize, the Davenport Prize, a BMI Prize, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council, MacDowell, and more. His training was at Boston University, with graduate work at The Curtis Institute of Music, Roosevelt University, The University of Chicago, and Harvard University. Coble currently lives in Chicago, where he composes, performs on trumpet and piano, and teaches at the University of Illinois and The University of Chicago.
