Xinyang Wang, a contemporary classical composer influenced by Eastern and Western traditions, has garnered multiple international accolades for his music. Wang highly values collaboration, having collaborated with numerous distinguished musicians and ensembles, striving to make meaningful contributions to the contemporary classical music landscape.

Notable achievements include winning the first prize in the 2020 Toru Takemitsu Awards, collaborating with esteemed orchestras like the Tokyo Philharmonic and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and becoming the first commissioned composer of Chinese identity at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. He has been prominently featured in prestigious music festivals, such as being the sole featured Asian composer at the 2021 Tanglewood Music Festival.

At MacDowell, he completed a major section of an orchestral work slated for multiple performances and continued developing a cycle of solo-instrumental pieces.

Van Zorn (formerly Kirby)

Xinyang Wang worked in the Van Zorn (formerly Kirby) studio.

Constructed thanks to a bequest from Sarah L. Kirby, Kirby Studio was the last new building to be erected during Mrs. MacDowell’s leadership (1907-1951).
