Tan Yubing is a visual artist based in Chengdu, China. She creates puppets, objects, sculptures, animations, and fabric works. She works with cuteness (also anti-cuteness), humor, uncomfortableness, and horror. Coming from a background in fiber and material studies, she believes in the power of softness and the meditative process of craft-making.

Yubing was an awardee of the Prince Claus Seed Awards 2022 and obtained a grant from esea contemporary as a delegate in Manchester, UK in 2023.

At MacDowell, she made site-specific installations and objects in her studio. She used hand-dyed textiles and crafted them into various forms of striped uniforms, as a way of caretaking and reclaiming power.

Mixter

Yubing Tan worked in the Mixter studio.

Built in 1927–1930, the Florence Kilpatrick Mixter Studio was funded by its namesake and designed by the architect F. Winsor, Jr., who also designed MacDowell's original Savidge Library in 1925.
